Iberia has announced a new baggage policy with larger allowances for business-class travellers on short- and medium-haul routes and smaller allowances for the lowest fares on long-haul flights.
The new allowances:
• On short- and medium-haul flights, tourist-class passengers can still check 23kg of luggage but in a single piece. Business-class passengers’ allowance is raised from 30kg to 46kg in two pieces of up to 23kg each.
• Travellers who have booked the lowest fares on long-haul flights may check only one bag of up to 23kg – no longer two as previously. Passengers with full-fare tourist, excursion or company-rate tickets may continue to check-in two bags with no charge.
• Iberia Plus, Platinum, Gold and Silver cardholders can always check an extra piece of luggage, regardless of the fare.
The new policy will take effect on March 1 but will not apply to tickets purchased before those dates.
Passengers will be able to pay for additional luggage on www.iberia.com when checking-in online, with an additional price reduction.
The airline’s carry-on luggage remains unchanged. Each tourist-class passenger can still carry one piece of up to 10kg. For reasons of security and to facilitate boarding and vacating aircraft, Iberia will continue to be very strict in ensuring that the hand luggage conforms to weight and size specifications.
